Flooring & Finishes
Staircases are the most high-traffic, high-visibility flooring surface in any home — and the most technically demanding to execute. Across multiple Austin-area residential projects, homeowners were dealing with the same problem: dated carpet, worn treads, or builder-grade finishes that clashed with updated interiors. The ask was consistent — natural hardwood, clean lines, and railing systems that felt custom rather than catalog. The execution challenge is precision: stair work requires exact mitering at landings, flush risers, consistent reveal on every tread, and seamless transitions between the stair surface and adjacent flooring.
Brothers Construction Group completed stair flooring installations across a range of home configurations — straight runs, switchback layouts, L-shaped turns, and multi-landing systems. The primary material across projects was wide-plank white oak, selected for its open grain, light natural tone, and durability under daily foot traffic. Tread-and-riser systems were installed with full-wrap coverage — no exposed substrate, no gaps at the wall — and matched to existing hardwood flooring on adjacent levels for continuity throughout the home. Railing systems varied by project: natural oak handrails with black iron balusters and box newel posts for a transitional aesthetic; wall-mounted wood rails with minimal hardware for tighter stair corridors; and clean white-painted half-walls with wood cap rail for a contemporary profile. One project incorporated recessed LED strip lighting along the stair wall — a V-shaped accent detail that adds safety and visual depth without disrupting the minimalist finish. Landings were floored in matching oak plank laid at 45-degree angles where the geometry called for it, creating natural transition points between stair directions.
A portfolio of stair installations that demonstrate range without sacrificing consistency. Each project looks purpose-built for the home it's in — the right tread width, the right railing profile, the right finish tone for the surrounding space. No two are identical, but all of them share the same standard: tight joints, level treads, and a result that holds up as well five years from now as it does on day one. This is the kind of work that gets noticed every time someone walks through the front door.
